MISSION STATEMENT

Guidance services are an integral part of the education program of Prince William County Public Schools.  The primary efforts of the Graham Park Middle School counselors are directed toward identifying and meeting the uniquie needs of students in grades six - eight.  Their secondary responsibility is to provide guidance services to parents, and school staff, in conjunction with various community agencies, to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies to meet student needs.

     Guidance services are provided sequentially to assist students in acquiring those skills necessary for personal, social, career, and educational growth and development.  these services are based upon the Prince William County K-12 Guidance and Counseling Curriculum, the Standards for School Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools, and the National Model for School Counseling.  Additionally, these services are provided to effect a smooth transition for students from elementary school to middle school, and from middle school to high school.

PHILOSOPHY

     The counselors at Graham Park Middle School believe that all students should be treated with dignity and respect, and have the right to participate in the school counseling program which is planned and coordinated by full-time, state-certified, master's degree level school counselors.  We believe that the needs of all students composing the unique and diverse Graham Park Middle School student population should be addressed when planning and implementing the school counseling program.

       We believe the counselors should abide by the ethical standards as advocated by the American School Counselor Association.  We believe the counselors should pursue opportunities to develop their professional competencies to ensure the provision of a quality school counseling program.
